Manual User Access Reviews were time-consuming and inefficient, often taking hours or even days in spreadsheets. The process was repetitive, error-prone, and prevented focus on more strategic security tasks.

Solution Overview
I built an automated User Access Review workflow in n8n. The system consolidates data from HR, application accounts, and system logins, applies analytical checks, and produces audit-ready reports in minutes.

Detailed Steps

• Data Integration: The workflow merges employee data from HR with application and system login records.
• Risk Detection:
  • Flags orphaned accounts (e.g., terminated employees with active access).
  • Detects dormant accounts with 90+ days of inactivity.
  • Identifies excessive privileges that break SoD rules.
• Custom Logic: A JavaScript component executes the core analysis for accuracy.
• Audit-Ready Reports: Findings are exported as clean CSV files ready for compliance audits.

Result
The client now completes User Access Reviews in minutes instead of days. The automation reduces compliance risk, eliminates spreadsheet errors, and frees up valuable time for higher-level security initiatives.
